Handmade soap (basic cold process soap recipe)

Ingredients:
300 gm. olive pomace oil
200 gm. coconut oil
150 gm. distilled water
82 gm. NaOH(caustic soda/lye)

Additional equipment:

Digital scale
Stick blender
Jug and pot
Eye protection gear(goggles, sunglasses, eyeglasses-just make sure something covers them)
Rubber gloves
Sieve

Method:

Before starting to work, make sure you are wearing your gloves and goggles and have vinegar next to your work space. In case lye accidentally gets in contact with your skin, it may be quickly neutralized by vinegar.
Do not use aluminum, tin, or copper. Use stainless steel, glass, or heat-resistant plastic for your bowls and utensils.
Start by pouring the NaOH in the water (Not the other way around!).Fumes will be released so make sure you work in a well ventilated space and away from the reach of children or pets. While you leave the lye water to cool a bit, measure out your oils in a tall pot and heat them up slightly, just to homogenize them. Turn the flame off and sieve the lye water while pouring it in the pot(Na OH crystals may be left undissolved in the water and you don't want that to get into your soap). The mixture will become cloudy. Start pulsing with the stick blender for periods of 3-4  seconds while moving it in an 8 shape. Make sure the head of the stick is emerged in the mixture completely to avoid introducing bubbles in your soap.  When the soap has reached trace* you may optionally add essential or perfume oils then pour the mixture in a lined container and keep it wrapped in some towels or any thick materials(to keep the heat in) overnight. The next day the soap will be hardened but not completely solid. Remove it from the container, cut into desired shapes and sizes and leave in a well ventilated space to cure for 4-6 weeks. Turn the soaps periodically. Some even say singing or talking to soaps affects the end result so go ahead and give it a try ;-) Good luck!
